The speed of the turn of events at Ninian Park in the past 48 hours caught most people out, perhaps including Sam Hammam himself.
No one could have foreseen that the man who rescued a struggling Cardiff City six years ago in the old third division would be left as a powerless club president with the Bluebirds seemingly on the eve of their finest hour.
There is plenty of hard work still to go but Hammam's dream of making the Bluebirds a Premiership club with a stadium to match is closer now than it has ever been to becoming a tangible reality.
Sam will be disappointed that he is no longer the man to lead City there.
He may also be disgruntled that it is Peter Ridsdale, the man he himself brought to the club in February 2005, who has succeeded him as chairman.
Most football fans don't need reminding about what happened during and after Ridsdale's previosu incarnation as chairman of Leeds United.
Ridsdale insists he has learnt his lessons from the mistakes that were made at Elland Road.
City fans will just be hoping that history doesn't repeat itself.
